CE, abbreviated from the French "Communate Europpene", stands for European Community. The European Community later evolved into the European Union (EU for short).

In the EU market, "CE" is a mandatory certification directive, and is regarded as the manufacturer's passport to open and enter the European market. Whether it is a product produced by an enterprise within the EU or a product produced in another country, in order to circulate freely in the EU market, it is necessary to affix the "CE" mark to show that the product meets the basic requirements of the EU's "New Approach to Technical Harmonization and Standardization" directive. This is a mandatory requirement for products under EU law. All products with the "CE" mark can be sold in each member state of the EU without having to meet the requirements of each member state, thus realizing the free circulation of goods within the EU member states. The significance of the CE marking is that the CE abbreviation is used as a symbol to indicate that the CE marked product conforms to the Essential Requirements of the relevant European Directive, and is used to confirm that the product has passed the corresponding conformity assessment procedures and/or the manufacturer's declaration of conformity, which truly becomes the passport for the product to be allowed to enter the European Community market. The relevant directives require the affixing of CE marking of industrial products, without the CE mark, shall not be marketed, has been affixed with the CE mark to enter the market, found to be incompatible with the safety requirements, to order the withdrawal from the market, continued violation of the directives on CE marking provisions, will be restricted or prohibited from entering the EU market or forced to withdraw from the market.

The CE marking indicates that the product complies with European regulations or differences. It can be self-declared by the manufacturer in accordance with EU laws and directives. Today, the CE marking is mandatory for entry into the European Economic Area (including the EU, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein).

Directives Directives

Directives are legal requirements for the use of certain categories of products, including basic health and safety requirements. These directives must be met before the CE mark can be posted, but manufacturers can choose how they want to be assessed. Currently, the European Union has issued more than twenty CE directives (CE directives) that provide technical documentation of a product with the CE mark affixed to it. This allows the product to circulate in its market.

Harmonized Standards

The easiest way to demonstrate compliance with the directives is through the European Harmonized Standards. If a particular product category complies with Harmonized Standards, it also means that it complies with the corresponding Directive specifications.

Declaring conformity

Many directives allow manufacturers to self-declare. Some directives require manufacturers to submit their products to a third-party certification body for testing and certification, or to have their quality system audited by a certification body.

The European Union (EU) covers 27 countries in the European region.
