EU RoHS
On July 22, 2019, the EU RoHS requirements were further strengthened as the EU began enforcement of the 4 o-benzenes of RoHS. The current EU RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS 2.0) was published on July 1, 2011 and came into force on July 21, 2011, replacing the original 2002/95/EC (RoHS 1.0). on June 4, 2015, the EU issued a revised Directive (EU) 2015/863, formally including the 4 phthalates ( DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP) into the restriction list of RoHS 2.0, stipulating that electrical and electronic products other than medical devices and monitoring devices are required to meet the requirements of 4 phthalates on a mandatory basis from July 22, 2019. Medical devices and monitoring equipment will be required to meet the four phthalate requirements from July 22, 2021.
Currently, the RoHS Directive controls almost all electrical and electronic products placed in the EU, with the following restricted substances:
Restricted substances | Limit value (%) | Common Uses |
Pb | ≤0.1 | Solder, power cord, plastic, rubber, photo-sensitive components, plated metal plates, contacts, inks and batteries, etc. |
Hg | ≤0.1 | Fluorescent lamps, fall switches, relays, contact materials, corrosion resistant treatment, LCD monitors and thermostats, etc. |
Cd | ≤0.01 | Power cords, electronic components, contact materials, conductors, solders, pigments and color powders, etc. |
Hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) | ≤0.1 | Commonly used in the electroplating industry, coloring agent in pigment, anti-corrosion agent, and also used in the post-plating passivation treatment of galvanized sheet. |
PBB | ≤0.1 | It is often used as a flame retardant in the electrical and electronics industry. |
PBDE | ≤0.1 | It is often used as a flame retardant in the electrical and electronics industry. |
DEHP | ≤0.1 | Used in synthetic resins and rubber plasticizers. |
BBP | ≤0.1 | Plastics used to cover cables, e.g. additives for PVC |
DBP | ≤0.1 | Used as plasticizer in PVC, also used as softening agent in synthetic materials such as digested cotton synthetic rubber, acetate fiber, leather chemical paint, etc. |
DIBP | ≤0.1 | Plasticizer for cellulose resins, vinyl resins, butadiene rubber and chlorinated rubber. |
