Mexico published Official Mexican Standard for lim
On May 2, 2014, Mexico published Official Mexican Standard NOM-004-SSA1-2013, Environmental health, specifies the limitations and sanitary specifications for the use of lead compounds. It requires stakeholder to ban the use of lead compounds in raw materials in below consumer products:
Pesticide production; drink water running piping (except the solder); paints, inks, varnishes, lacquers and enamels; glazed pottery ware, glazed ceramic ware and porcelain ware used as containers for and in the processing of food and beverages; toys and school articles; cosmetics (exclude the cosmetics that have Pb requirements in other regulations); latex paint and ceramic glaze in furnitures, coating, housing construction, office; school, house and kindergarten. The content of Pb will be limited according to below standards:
NOM-003-SSA1-2006, Environmental Health. Sanitary requirements that the labeling of paints, inks, varnishes, lacquers and enamels must satisfy.
NOM-231-SSA1-2002: Glazed pottery ware, glazed ceramic ware and porcelain ware. Soluble lead and cadmium limits. Test method.
NOM-252-SSA1-2011, Environmental Health. Toys and school articles. Limits of Bioavailability of heavy metals. Chemical specifications and test methods.
This standard will be effective from 2 May 2015, those products that do not comply with this standard will be exempted for sale for 5 years.
